GRAPE : Syrah 100%
COLOUR: Deep ruby red with violet hues.
BOUQUET: Rich and concentrated nose of very ripe red fruits, sweet spices, final liquorice notes.
PALATE: Harmonious and frank with rounded tannins. Serve at 16-18°C.
HISTORY
The name of our Saint Joseph, red and white, comes from Victor Hugo’s "Légende des siècles" : in the 9th century, the Grand Pompée, faithful companion to Charlemagne, fought at his side against the Moors, on the right bank of the Rhône. A famous line remains from this battle: "And wine, that wine beloved of the Grand Pompée".
SOIL
Our estate of 5.50 ha (and another 6 currently being planted on the communes of Serrières and Tournon) on a light soil of schists and gneiss on a bed of granite.
AGE OF THE VINES: around 20 to 50 years.
VINIFICATION
Destalking; controlled alcoholic fermentations and temperatures; Long vatting during 3 to 4 weeks.
AGEING
6 to 9 months in oak casks.
