This vineyard, created by the Comte Jean-Pierre de Montalivet, Napoleon Minister, was destroyed by the phylloxera in 1880 and re planted by his grand son, the Baron Arthur de Chabaud La Tour. It is actually the property of the Comte Georges de Choulot de Chabaud La Tour, the fifth generation of the family.
15 hectares of vines are planted with a mix of young and older vines (some are used for the nervousness and the others for their aromas. They are planted on clayey and chalky soils at five kilometers from Sancerre, in front of the Loire river.
The Sancerre of the Château de Thauvenay is an elegant dry white wine with intense aromas of citrus fruits and white flowers, with a long after taste. With the late palate a raspberry taste appears which is characteristic of the Sauvignon variety when produced on a chalky soil.
